Towards ISA 2026 - Archaeometry meets the public

In the run-up to the 45th International Symposium on Archaeometry, the Organising Committee is delighted to present a series of public events bringing cutting-edge research in archaeometry closer to the local community.

By combining natural sciences and archaeology, archaeometry allows for the chronological assessment of artefacts, the provenance determination of materials, the reconstruction of palaeoenvironments, and the investigation of patterns of mobility and interaction among ancient communities.

Through this special series of events, the ISA 2026 organisers (University of Turin, AIAr, CCR “La Venaria Reale”, Museo Egizio, INFN and the Musei Reali) invite the public to explore the people, places and discoveries that are shaping archaeometry today.

(All these pre-symposium events will be held in Italian)

The Story Behind the ISA 2026 Logo

ISA 2026 represents a unique opportunity to introduce archaeometry and raise awareness of this interdisciplinary field within the local community in Turin. With this goal in mind, a collaboration was established with the Primo Liceo Artistico Statale of Turin for the creation of the official congress logo and banners.

The activity was preceded by a seminar open to all students at the school. The seminar introduced archaeometry through examples drawn from ongoing research carried out across the various departments of the University of Turin, and presented ISA 2026 within its broad scientific and cultural framework. After the seminar, each student in the Graphic Design class developed a personal interpretation of the congress logo.

The logo proposals were evaluated by the ISA 2026 Organising Committee. While the Committee members recognised the high quality and creativity of all the proposals submitted, the logo designed by Davide Pochettino was selected for its ability to effectively represent both the plurality of disciplines that characterise archaeometry and the collective spirit of the ISA 2026 organisers.

After the logo was selected, it was further developed to create the banners. Throughout the entire 2024/2025 school year, the students, guided by their teacher Prof. Stassi, worked with dedication and professionalism on this project. The ISA 2026 Organisers warmly thank all the students in the Graphic Design class, the Headteacher and Prof. Stassi for their commitment and support in ensuring the successful implementation of all phases of this fruitful collaboration.
